The “100 Students – 100 Trees: Carbon Neutrality Mission” is an initiative by the Interact Club of Lumina, Shree Bharath Vidyaashram CBSE Senior Secondary School, Agaram, Oussudu, Puducherry, in collaboration with Sri Aurobindo Society – Svarnim Puducherry and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pondicherry White Town.

With the goal of bringing 100 students together to plant 100 trees at Bahour Lake, the initiative seeks to nurture environmental responsibility among young people and encourage them to become active participants in building a sustainable future.

Trees play an essential role in maintaining ecological balance, supporting biodiversity and absorbing carbon dioxide. Beyond their environmental benefits, planting and caring for trees offers young people an opportunity to develop a deeper connection with nature and understand that protecting the environment requires consistent, collective effort.

As India approaches its 80th Independence Day, this initiative carries a meaningful message: the responsibility of building a better future extends beyond celebrating our nation’s progress. It also calls on us to care for the natural world that sustains us. By bringing students together around a shared environmental goal, the programme encourages a generation that recognises sustainability not merely as an idea, but as a responsibility to practise.

At Svarnim Puducherry, we believe that lasting change grows when awareness is translated into action and communities work together towards a common purpose. Every tree planted represents a commitment to the future, and every young person inspired to care for the planet brings us a step closer to a greener tomorrow.
