This May, Our Responsibility to Children (ORC) continued its mission of nurturing emotional strength and psychosocial well-being across Puducherry and beyond. With a special focus on community engagement and intergenerational care, ORC expanded its reach to 11 diverse communities and SOS Children’s Village in Nagapattinam, touching the lives of over 400 individuals.

Community Programs in Anganwadi Centers: Grassroots Mental Health in Action

From the streets to the vibrant Anganwadis, our team facilitated life skills and mental health awareness sessions that reached 386 participants, including 150 men and 236 women.

In every community, the focus was clear: equip people with emotional tools to handle stress, express feelings, and build better relationships.

Each session wasn’t just educational—it was transformational. Women found support in shared stories. Men opened up in rare conversations. And children laughed, learned, and let go.

Mental Health Programme:

On 31st May 2025, a Mental Health Programme was conducted at SOS Children’s Village, Nagapattinam. The programme was structured into two focused sessions aimed at promoting mental well-being and enhancing psychosocial skills among children and their caregivers.

Session 1: Engagement with Children, 14 children (4 boys and 10 girls)

The first session was tailored to engage children in understanding and discussing key aspects of mental health and psychosocial development. The following themes were covered through interactive activities and discussions were Mental Health Awareness, Interpersonal Relationships, Effective Communication, Teamwork, Emotional Well-being, Empathy and Time Management

The session encourages active participation from the children, allowing them to express their thoughts, share experiences, and practice skills essential for their emotional and social development.

Session 2: Engagement with Caregivers, 12 caregivers (10 women and 2 men)

The focus was on equipping them with knowledge and strategies to support their own mental health as well as that of the children under their care. Key topics includes Mental Health Awareness, Interpersonal Relationships, Emotional Well-being, Empathy and Self-care

The caregivers were encouraged to reflect on their own emotional experiences and responsibilities. The session facilitated open discussion and sharing, promoting a deeper understanding of the importance of self-care and empathetic caregiving in creating a supportive environment for children.
