A landmark milestone was achieved at Aurovanam with the inauguration of the Environmental Lab and Eco Dormitory on 29 June 2026, commemorating the International Day of the Tropics. More than the opening of two new facilities, the occasion marked a renewed commitment to advancing ecological research, environmental education, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable living. The event brought together educators, environmentalists, researchers, students, and well-wishers who share a common vision of building a future where people live in harmony with nature.
The Environmental Lab has been established as a dedicated space for scientific exploration, ecological monitoring, and experiential learning. It will support research on biodiversity, climate, water, soil, and local ecosystems while providing students, researchers, and visiting institutions with opportunities to engage in hands-on environmental investigations. The facility will also serve as a platform for citizen science initiatives, conservation studies, and innovative environmental education programmes.
Complementing the laboratory is the newly inaugurated Eco Dormitory, designed to accommodate students, researchers, volunteers, and participants attending residential workshops, camps, and nature immersion programmes. Built with sustainability in mind, the dormitory promotes environmentally responsible living and enables visitors to experience Aurovanam’s unique learning environment over extended periods. Together, these facilities significantly strengthen Aurovanam’s capacity to host educational programmes, ecological research, and conservation initiatives throughout the year.
The inauguration reflects Sri Aurobindo Society’s long-term vision of transforming Aurovanam into a vibrant centre for environmental learning and ecological stewardship. Guided by the ideals of The Mother, the new facilities represent an investment in future generations by creating spaces where curiosity, scientific inquiry, and respect for nature can flourish side by side.
