Fortnightly Groundwater Monitoring and Water Quality Assessment:
Fortnightly groundwater-level and water-quality monitoring was carried out across 24 monitoring locations to assess groundwater conditions and track changes following the recharge interventions. Key parameters including pH, ORP, EC, TDS, salinity, and SG were measured and recorded for systematic monitoring.
Practical demonstrations on water-quality testing were also conducted for school students, introducing the significance of these parameters and the importance of regular monitoring for understanding groundwater trends and supporting sustainable water management.
The July comparison showed that pH and salinity remained generally stable, while EC and TDS showed site-level variations. Increases were observed at Ariyankuppam, Poornankuppam, Keezh Parikkalpattu School, and Seliamedu GHSS, while reductions were recorded at Aurovanam, Fatima Government Aided School, Kirumambakkam PHC, and Embalam GHSS. Karayaambutthur PHC, Kalitheertthalkuppam School, Sutthukeni School, MNGP, and Vallalar GGHSS showed notable variations requiring continued observation.
Overall: July monitoring indicates stable pH and salinity, with moderate variations in EC and TDS across the monitored locations, highlighting the importance of continued fortnightly monitoring.
Site Assessment for Upcoming Sustainable School Interventions:
To support the next phase of project implementation, site visits were conducted in 10 Government schools to assess the feasibility of installing Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) systems, kitchen gardens, and greywater treatment systems. The assessment included evaluating rooftop catchment areas, drainage pathways, water availability, suitable locations for recharge structures, kitchen gardens, greywater reuse, and other site-specific technical requirements.
During the visits, the project team also conducted orientation sessions with the respective Head of Schools, explaining the project objectives, the importance of water conservation and sustainable resource management, and the need for these interventions in the context of increasing water scarcity and climate change. Based on the field observations and technical feasibility, the final list of schools was prepared for the upcoming implementation phase, ensuring that the selected sites offer maximum potential for sustainable and effective project outcomes.
Support for Marico External Evaluation:
The project team provided field support to the Marico External Evaluation Team over a period of three days. This included coordinating site visits, facilitating interactions with stakeholders, arranging project documentation, and providing technical information related to the implemented interventions.
The team ensured that all scheduled field activities were completed efficiently, enabling the evaluation process to be carried out smoothly and providing the evaluators with a comprehensive understanding of the project’s implementation and impact.
School Kitchen Garden Assessment for Aadi Perukku Sowing:
In preparation for the upcoming Aadi Perukku Kitchen Garden Sowing Programme, assessment visits were carried out across 25 school kitchen gardens established under the project. The objective was to review the present condition of each garden and determine its readiness for the seasonal sowing activities.
The assessment focused on the overall maintenance of the gardens, soil condition, availability of basic gardening tools, irrigation arrangements, and other resources required for successful cultivation. Discussions were also held with teachers and school representatives to identify existing challenges and plan the necessary improvements before the sowing programme begins. These visits will help ensure better preparation, healthier plant growth, and greater student participation during the upcoming activity.
Teacher Orientation Programme for Bhoo-Me Innovation Festival:
The project team organised a Teacher Orientation Programme for the Bhoo-Me Innovation Festival, with 21 teachers participating in the orientation session. The session introduced the festival’s vision, objectives, implementation framework, and expected outcomes, providing teachers with a clear understanding of the programme and their role in supporting student participation.
Following the orientation, 21 project proposals were received from 13 participating schools across the Puducherry and Karaikal regions. These included proposals from 7 government schools, 5 private schools, and 1 government school from Karaikal. The orientation also focused on guiding teachers in mentoring students, developing innovation-based ideas, and promoting experiential learning through environmental education. Participants were familiarised with the festival guidelines, activity timeline, and submission process to support the smooth implementation of the programme.
