This May, Aurovanam welcomed 113 visitors who immersed themselves in the unique biodiversity of the Pondicherry bioregion. From native TDEF (Tropical Dry Evergreen Forest) species to the flourishing seed bank, guests learned how Aurovanam works to revive, conserve, and reintroduce indigenous plant varieties—many of which have high medicinal and nutritional value.

Our Seed Bank Program continues to empower farmers by providing native seeds free of cost in exchange for seed return, helping preserve genetic diversity and promote sustainable farming.

The Kitchen Garden, abundant with nutrient-rich native greens, fruits, and vegetables, remained a point of fascination for visitors—especially varieties unfamiliar to many, yet deeply rooted in local traditions and wellness.

Aurovanam also served as a peaceful forest campus for two batches of the Robotics Summer Camp, where students explored tech and nature in harmony.

As part of International Biodiversity Day, participants from the event organized by the Pondicherry Department of Forests were given a guided nature walk through Aurovanam. They were introduced to various TDEF plants and their uses, deepening awareness of native ecology.

In an exciting fusion of technology and ecology, the Robotics & DEL team installed an automatic borewell switch system, enhancing water and electricity conservation. And, as we prepared for our Beekeeping Workshop, a new honeybee box was installed—welcoming a fresh buzz to Aurovanam!

Together, these efforts continue to establish Aurovanam as a sanctuary for biodiversity education, ecological restoration, and community learning.
