On 18th May 2025, Aurovanam—the heart of nature-based learning at Svarnim Puducherry—hosted a vibrant and hands-on Beekeeping Training to celebrate World Bee Day. Guided by bee expert Lazer Jean, participants discovered the intricate world of Apis Cerana and stingless bees, gaining essential knowledge about their care, ecological importance, and the role they play in sustaining biodiversity.
Earlier this month, Aurovanam had welcomed two buzzing families—10,000 Apis Cerana and 15,000 stingless bees—who were gently transported in handcrafted hives and settled amidst our native flowering trees. This workshop marked the next chapter in that journey, offering a rare opportunity for students, nature lovers, and aspiring apiarists to learn directly from experts in an immersive natural setting.
The session was inclusive and bilingual (English & Tamil), allowing participants of all backgrounds to join in. From understanding pollination to practical hive care, the training planted both knowledge and inspiration. Participants left with a renewed appreciation for pollinators and the critical need to protect them.
Shiva, Aurovanam’s dedicated caretaker, completed the training and now steps confidently into his role as resident bee guardian, ensuring the well-being of our newest winged residents.
Through initiatives like these, Aurovanam continues to foster ecological education, community engagement, and a deeper connection with the natural rhythms of life.
