Knowledge sharing and community learning took centre stage as 50 farmers from BOOME Trust, Vellore District, Tamil Nadu, supported by NABARD, visited the Svarnim Puducherry team for an exposure visit on water resource management. The visit provided participants with an opportunity to understand innovative and community-driven approaches to water conservation that can be adapted to their own regions.

The programme commenced with an orientation session, where the Svarnim team introduced the farmers to its integrated water management initiatives aimed at improving water security and promoting sustainable resource use. The session covered key interventions such as school-based rainwater harvesting systems, groundwater recharge techniques, and community-led water resource management practices. Participants gained insights into how these initiatives contribute to conserving rainwater, replenishing aquifers, and ensuring the long-term availability of water for both communities and agriculture.

In the afternoon, the group visited the Koravalimedu Water Resource Management System, where they observed the practical implementation of various watershed management and groundwater recharge interventions. The field visit offered first-hand exposure to the design, functioning, and impact of these structures, enabling farmers to connect theoretical concepts with real-world applications.

The exposure visit concluded with an interactive discussion involving the President of the Mullodai Vaikal Pasana Sangam and local community members. They shared their experiences in managing irrigation systems, maintaining water resources, and mobilising community participation to strengthen water security and improve agricultural productivity. The exchange of ideas highlighted the importance of collective action and local stewardship in achieving sustainable water management.

By bringing together farmers, practitioners, and community leaders, the exposure visit created a valuable platform for learning, collaboration, and the exchange of best practices. Such initiatives strengthen the capacity of farming communities to adopt sustainable water management solutions while fostering resilience in the face of growing environmental and agricultural challenges.
