June 2025 was a month of powerful outreach and deep engagement for the Our Responsibility to Children (ORC) initiative. From life skills camps and teacher orientations to impactful awareness sessions on tobacco and drug abuse, the ORC team reached hundreds of students, educators, and community members. Each session reflected our continued commitment to nurturing emotionally resilient children and building inclusive, supportive ecosystems around them.
In June 2025, ORC organized seven IKMSS orientation sessions across government schools in Puducherry. A total of 54 teachers were sensitized to the emotional and behavioral challenges children commonly face in school environments. These sessions aimed to equip educators with foundational knowledge on mental health, life skills development, and classroom strategies to create safe and supportive spaces for all learners. Teachers were introduced to the ORC framework and its integrated approach to strengthening the child’s ecosystem — including school, family, and community — with emphasis on early detection and appropriate intervention.
This month, ORC conducted two Smart-40 camps, impacting the lives of 90 students from two government schools. These camps are designed to identify and nurture children from diverse learning profiles — including average, below average, and above average — into peer leaders. Over multiple days, children participated in hands-on life skills activities that focused on emotional intelligence, self-awareness, communication, leadership, decision-making, and empathy. Each session was structured to be experiential, ensuring students gained practical tools to grow into confident, socially responsible change-makers within their schools and local communities.
To reinforce learning and growth, four follow-up camps were held across schools in Puducherry, involving a total of 147 students. These sessions provided a safe and reflective space for Smart-40 participants to revisit key concepts, share experiences, and assess how the life skills learned are shaping their daily lives. Activities were designed to re-ignite their curiosity, strengthen interpersonal bonds, and encourage continued peer learning. These follow-up engagements serve as a vital bridge between one-time interventions and sustained behavioral transformation in students.
As part of our ongoing commitment to children’s emotional well-being, the ORC team facilitated 11 individual counselling sessions for students requiring focused support, and one community counselling session for collective reflection and dialogue. These sessions addressed concerns ranging from stress, family issues, academic pressure, and emotional distress. ORC’s counselling support provides not just a space for expression but also tools and guidance to cope, adapt, and build resilience in the face of personal challenges.
A powerful outreach session was held at SOS Children’s Village, Nagapattinam, engaging 77 children in a vibrant life skills and storytelling workshop. Through creative narratives and interactive activities, children explored themes of self-love, empathy, time management, emotional well-being, and goal-setting. This session aimed to help children recognize their own potential and foster a positive, inclusive, and nurturing mindset — especially important for children in alternative care systems.
