Turning Weeds into Wonders Posted on June 12, 2025June 20, 2025 by Divya Priya Six women artisans are now regularly crafting eco-friendly water hyacinth products at Kalanjiyam, Bahour, with their creations being marketed through Aura Experience Stores. This initiative not only generates sustainable livelihoods but also transforms an invasive aquatic weed into a meaningful economic and ecological opportunity. As part of International Biodiversity Day celebrations on 22nd May 2025, a special demo session and project walkthrough was held for participants at Auro Vanam. Members of the Puducherry Biodiversity Council, Forest Department, and newly formed Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) were introduced to the journey of water hyacinth — from aquatic weed to handcrafted product. The exposure session, themed “Aquatic Weeds: Challenges & Opportunities”, sparked valuable dialogue on restoration and reuse. This field engagement highlighted how local communities can be empowered through nature-based solutions that restore biodiversity and foster circular economies.
Drone Training for Agro-Homeopathy Posted on June 12, 2025 by Divya Priya A New Leap Towards Sustainable Farming Three members from Svarnim Puducherry recently completed a hands-on drone flight training program, marking a significant advancement in our Agro-Homeopathy for Sustainable Agriculture (AHAR) initiative. Traditionally, agro-homeopathy medicines are applied weekly as foliar sprays—about 10 to 12 times during a single paddy growing season. While effective, the manual process can be time-consuming for farmers. To simplify and scale this method, we are introducing agricultural drones for spraying these eco-friendly treatments. With drone-assisted application, farmers will not only save time and labor but also ensure uniform coverage, improving the efficacy of the homeopathic solutions while making sustainable farming more accessible and tech-driven. This step reflects our continuous effort to blend traditional ecological wisdom with innovative technology—paving the way for a greener, smarter future in agriculture.
Bridge Education – Summer in Full Bloom! Posted on June 12, 2025June 12, 2025 by Divya Priya This summer, our Bridge Education program offered a vibrant mix of experiential learning and joyful exploration for our young learners. Children immersed themselves in a variety of hands-on activities designed to stimulate curiosity and creativity while connecting deeply with nature. From shaping the earth in clay art to observing the wonders of farm landscapes and kitchen gardens, every moment brought new discoveries. Students enjoyed splashing around during swimming sessions, admired the buzzing life of Apis cerana and stingless bees, and learned the graceful techniques of palm leaf art. The most cherished part? Our happiness-sharing circle—a beautiful reminder that learning thrives best in joy and connection. Through these diverse summer experiences, Bridge Education continues to nurture confident, grounded, and mindful learners who see the world with wonder and purpose.
AHAR – Field Insights from Sustainable Farming Practices Posted on June 12, 2025June 12, 2025 by Divya Priya As part of our ongoing AHAR (Agro-Homeopathy for Sustainable Agriculture) outreach, we recently observed remarkable outcomes in paddy fields during heavy rainfall events. Fields sprayed with our homeopathy-based preparations stood resilient and upright, while adjacent fields treated with conventional NPK fertilizers experienced lodging, where the plants bent or collapsed due to excess water and weak stem strength. This outcome reflects AHAR’s core mission: reducing dependency on chemical inputs while enhancing crop strength, soil vitality, and climate resilience. The use of homeopathic solutions not only mitigates harmful residues but also promotes long-term agricultural sustainability—supporting both farmers and the environment. These results reaffirm the potential of agro-homeopathy to transform farming into a more natural, cost-effective, and ecologically sound system.
Auro Innovation Centre – Pioneering Green Solutions Posted on June 12, 2025June 12, 2025 by Divya Priya This month, the Auro Innovation Centre continued advancing sustainable technologies through practical deployment and research.Biogas Plant Now Operational at Kalanjiyam, BahourOur biogas system is now fully functional at the Kalanjiyam campus in Bahour. This marks a significant step forward in sustainable energy generation using organic waste, helping meet local energy needs while reducing environmental impact.Innovative Research in Aquatic Feedstock for BiogasThe team is also conducting focused research on biogas production from aquatic biomass, including invasive species like water hyacinth. The goal is to explore new, locally available feedstocks that promote circular economy models and environmental restoration.Solar Dryer Prototype DevelopmentWe’re currently fabricating and studying the efficiency of bed-type solar dryers—designed to dehydrate food sustainably using solar energy. The innovation focuses on improving affordability, drying efficiency, and preserving nutritional value, especially for use in rural and livelihood-based settings.Through each of these efforts, Auro Innovation Centre is not just solving technical challenges — it’s building climate-conscious solutions rooted in local needs and ecosystems.
Extensive field visits at Thengathittu Estuary and Mullodai Lagoon Posted on June 9, 2025June 9, 2025 by Divya Priya Extensive field visits were conducted at Thengathittu Estuary and Mullodai Lagoon to document aquatic biodiversity, resulting in the photographic identification of over 70 different fish species across both sites. In parallel, an initiative was undertaken to assess the circular economy potential of water hyacinth in Bahour, Pillayarkuppam, Uchimedu, and Manapet lakes. Fresh hyacinth samples were collected using 1m x 1m quadrants from the four corners of each lake, weighed, then dried for a week on the terrace of Kalanjiyam, Bahour. Post-drying weights were recorded to establish biomass data, which forms the basis for evaluating the feasibility of converting water hyacinth into biochar, biogas, and compost. Additional ecological observations were made at M. Pudukuppam Lagoon, Suba Uppalavaadi Lagoon, Keezh Parikkalpattu Lake, Bahour Lake, and Kumaramangalam fields, focusing on bird species and associated fauna. A comprehensive community survey was conducted to understand local perceptions of ecosystem services and environmental degradation. This survey covered more than 400 respondents across villages located in the periphery of Bahour Lake, providing valuable insights into how communities interact with and are impacted by the surrounding wetland ecosystem.
CHAMP – Building a Healthier Future Posted on June 9, 2025 by Divya Priya As part of our ongoing commitment to nurturing the health and resilience of children, the CHAMP team conducted BMI (Body Mass Index) analysis across our participating schools, ensuring early identification of health patterns and nutritional needs. These assessments play a vital role in shaping targeted wellness initiatives for the students. In an exciting step toward expanding the program’s reach, the team also visited the prestigious Arjuna Trophy Hockey Tournament. This visit wasn’t just about observing—it was a strategic move to foster ground-level networking, build alliances, and explore new avenues for integrating athletics and community-based health activities. CHAMP continues to evolve as a holistic approach to children’s well-being—combining data, movement, and meaningful partnerships for a stronger, healthier tomorrow.
