Robotics : Learning Through Exploration and Discovery

At Svarnim Puducherry, robotics go beyond introducing children to scientific concepts and technology. The initiative creates opportunities for students to learn through observation, hands-on experience, questioning, experimentation and discovery. By encouraging children to explore ideas themselves, the programme makes learning an active process rather than one centred solely on receiving information.

This approach reflects The Mother’s emphasis on integral education and the development of the whole child. Education extends beyond academic knowledge to nurture the mind, creativity, practical abilities, confidence, discipline and self-awareness. Each learning experience becomes an opportunity for children to develop their capacities while discovering more about themselves and the world around them.

Robotics: Understanding Through Hands-on Learning

During the month, robotics sessions reached approximately 1,500 students across different learning levels. The modules introduced students to electronic components, circuits, robotics assembly and basic programming concepts, allowing them to build their understanding progressively.

At Level 1, students explored the reset switch, push-button switch and potentiometer, alongside an introduction to the two-way switch. These topics introduced them to the components and controls used in electronic systems.

At Level 2, students worked with seven-segment displays, robot assembly, the NOT logic gate and an introduction to motor drivers. These modules helped them explore how electronic components and logical operations contribute to the functioning of robotic systems.

At Level 3, students engaged in LED blinking and LED toggling activities, alongside a pre-assessment and introduction to further concepts. These activities encouraged them to observe how electronic systems respond to inputs and how components can be used to produce different outputs.

The programme’s reported robotics coverage included 1,311 students, comprising 877 boys and 434 girls. Through practical activities, students are encouraged to experiment, identify problems, test ideas and learn from their mistakes. These experiences help nurture independent thinking and problem-solving while connecting scientific concepts with practical applications.

Weekend Classes: From Python to Autonomous Systems

The weekend classes extended learning opportunities to 19 students, with activities focused on Python coding revision and an autonomous traffic signal system.

The coding revision offered students an opportunity to revisit programming concepts, while the autonomous traffic signal system connected computational thinking with a practical application. Such activities encourage learners to consider how technology can be used to understand problems and develop solutions.

Beyond Technical Skills: Developing the Whole Child

The educational philosophy behind these initiatives places equal importance on how children learn and what they learn. Students are encouraged to experiment freely, think independently, cooperate with others and take responsibility for their work. Team-based activities also provide opportunities to develop respect, communication and collaboration.

Learning is understood as a process that involves the mind, hands and creative abilities together. Each experience can also encourage children to reflect on their thoughts, feelings, reactions, strengths and limitations, supporting greater self-awareness alongside technical learning.

Through robotics, STEM and weekend activities, Svarnim Puducherry seeks to create learning environments where children can discover their abilities, build confidence and develop a deeper understanding of the world. The aim is not simply to teach science and technology, but to nurture curious, capable and conscious learners who can continue growing both intellectually and personally.
